This article is based on insights gained from the supplier selection process in the Turkish automotive aftermarket conducted in 2018.<\/p>\n<h3>Suppliers for the Romanian assembly plant<\/h3>\n<p>KMT, a company under the South Korean SH Group, collaborated with the Korean consulting firm PRZ. Their goal was to find suppliers for an assembly plant in Romania. KMT specializes in harmful exhaust gas reduction and high-efficiency engine control technologies for diesel engines. Consequently, it was matched with automotive-focused suppliers from Turkey and Eastern Europe. These suppliers provide products such as turbochargers, intake manifolds, and EGR valves. Additionally, they offer processes like plastic injection, machining, aluminum die casting, and sintering.<\/p>\n<p>For this project, discussions were held with 54 Turkish companies to assess their suitability as KMT suppliers. 20 companies that were equipped to produce these parts with the necessary technology and machinery and were interested in long-term cooperation were identified. Additionally, suppliers from Czechia and Slovakia (27), Hungary (21), Poland (11), and Romania (16) were matched with the project.<\/p>\n<h3>Supplier Requirements<\/h3>\n<p>Interviews were conducted to determine if the products provided by\u00a0potential suppliers met\u00a0customer needs and quality standards. Suppliers were required to provide reports on quality standards, technical specifications, delivery times, and other performance criteria, including:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Company Website<\/li>\n<li>Location (city and country)<\/li>\n<li>Establishment (year)<\/li>\n<li>Employees (number of persons)<\/li>\n<li>Sales turnover (2017)<\/li>\n<li>Main customers (within and outside the automotive sector)<\/li>\n<li>Main products (within and outside the automotive sector)<\/li>\n<li>Export ratio (%)<\/li>\n<li>Automotive products ratio (%)<\/li>\n<li>Production facility<\/li>\n<li>Inspection and test facility<\/li>\n<li>Certification (IATF16949)<\/li>\n<li>Tool design and fabrication<\/li>\n<li>Heat treatment and plating<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Basic Requirements:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Auto part suppliers, min. over 30%<\/li>\n<li>Tier 2<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.iatfglobaloversight.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">TS16949<\/a> (under audit IATF16949)<\/li>\n<li>High-quality AL die-casting technology with machining process<\/li>\n<li>Good experience in producing brake components, roof rails, steering parts, car seat components, gear shifts, gas, and pneumatic parts<\/li>\n<li>Machine capacity: 80~160 tons<\/li>\n<li>Electroplating, powder and spray coating, assembly<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Company profiles, financial status, past performance, and references of potential suppliers were gathered. Then, quality management systems, production capacities, cost structures, delivery times, compliance, and certification were thoroughly examined.
